Remote Instruction Information

During remote instruction, my classes are asynchronous which means you can do your work when it works for you. We will not be having a regular meeting time. However, I do hold office hours Monday through Thursday from 9 am -11 am via Canvas chat. What works best is to email me and we can set up a phone or Zoom appointment. You will not need to buy a textbook for my classes but you may need to sign a book out of the library. You can find more specific information about this on the syllabus for your course. You will definitely need a computer for online instruction. If you do not have one, you can check one out from the library.

Background

I am passionate about the process of learning and teaching and believe this happens best in dialogue. I have a Ph.D. in Multicultural Theatre through the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have taught a range of subjects that include philosophy, art education, art history, film studies, and world mythology, but my main fields are theatre and education. I have always been interested in the big questions of life: Why are we here? What's the purpose of life? What happens when we die? Hence - my love of philosophy. My seeking has led me around the world. One of my biggest sources of joy in life is traveling, experiencing other cultures, and discovering new ways of looking at life. I also have a background in working with diverse populations, including the Swinomish and Upper Skagit Tribes of Skagit Valley, migrant workers and indigenous tribes from Oaxaca, Latino youth, and Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong. I truly believe diversity is the spice of life. Theatre is another major source of passion for me and in 1997 I was the founder of North West Children’s Theatre, which later became META Performing Arts. I have taught Theatre, directed and produced plays, and am the author of 13 plays. I believe theatre is an excellent vehicle for exploring social issues, as well as personal development and discovery of self. In 2008, I ventured overseas with my husband and we taught in Bangladesh for 3 years and Hong Kong for 4 years. I am grateful that my life’s work is rooted in the theatre, a field where I am constantly learning….and in wonder.
