Tony St John is excited to be joining the faculty at Skagit Valley College! Tony was born and raised in Anchorage, AK where he grew up fishing for salmon and playing ice hockey. During high school Tony had an amazing teacher named Steve Kemper who inspired him to study Chemistry. After high school Tony went on to earn his BA in Chemistry from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. It was during his time at Whitman that Tony really discovered his passion for teaching thanks to another amazing professor, Allison Calhoun. From there, Tony went straight into graduate school at the University of Washington where he studied hydrogen storage and worked towards developing anti-Markovnikov hydroamination reactions. After graduate school Tony went to work as an adjunct professor at Western Washington University where he worked for three years prior to moving to Skagit Valley College.
In his free time, Tony enjoys cooking and playing outdoors. This past summer, Tony went on a 4-day rafting trip on the Lower Deschutes River in Oregon, caught bucketloads of Dungeness crab in Bellingham Bay, and spent quite a bit of time hiking in his backyard... Larrabee State park!
