Welcome to My Page!

I am originally from Oceanside, California, a suburb of San Diego.  I attended Cal State San Marcos where I earned my Bachellor's degree in Cell and Molecular Biology.  I then went on to earn my Ph.D. in the same field at UC Riverside, studying the regulation of plant genes that are involved in nitrogen assimilation.  My expertise is in molecular biology and plant transformation.  I then went on to do post-doctoral reasearch in the area of plant microbial pathogens; specifically, the bacterium that causes Citrus Greening Disease (Huanglongbing).

After my post-doc, I went on to teach at MiraCosta College, Moreno Valley College, and UC Riverside as an adjunct professor from 2010-2014.  I came to Skagit Valley College in the Fall of 2014 to pursue my dream of making a difference in my community through sharing my love of science at a small college.  I feel like I really can get to know my students here, and vice versa. I am very fortunate to have met so many amazing students and, hopefully, inspired in them a life-long love and appreciation for Biology.

I am the faculty advisor for the Natural Sciences Club (on the Whidbey Is. Campus), and the Latinos In Science Club.

I love writing, cooking/baking, road trips, foreign languages, Mexican food, and my pets.
