WELCOME TO KURT DUNBAR'S FACULTY PAGE

A little about me

This is my thirteenth year teaching at Skagit Valley College. I earned both of my degrees in history from Western Washington University where I later taught history for five years.

I was raised in the Sierra Nevada Mountains (South Lake Tahoe).  I lived in Alaska (Seward) for many years and thawed out for a few years in Hawaii before moving back to the Pacific Northwest in 1987.  I have lived in Bellingham ever since.

I have seen the Gobi desert in the moonlight and the vast stretches of Russia from the TransSiberian Railway. I have traveled to England and Scotland but my lifelong goal is to experience firsthand the history, art, and cuisine of Italy.

For most of the past dozen or so summers I lived aboard big cruise ships (last year the Sapphire Princess)working as a naturalist and onboard lecturer. There are probably better ways to spend the summer than sailing up and down the coastal waters of the Northwest coast between British Columbia and Alaska but I don't know of any.

I have been married to my lovely wife Patricia for 38 years and we have two daughters Rebekah and Sarah.
