Spring quarter information

CourseIDs: courseIDs for all spring courses are now listed.

Textbook information may be found by going to the cardinal bookstore or visiting www.skagit.edu/wic-math.  For my classes, ANY edition of the appropriate textbook will work.  However, you must have a copy of mymathlab.  Spring quarter starts Tuesday, April 3, 2012.

MyMathLab (myLab) Temporary access

MyMathLab temporary access: click here for instructions on how to access MyMathLab on a temporary basis.  You will have 17 days after starting the temporary access to upgrade to full access (by purchasing a myMathLab access kit).


Access Code Purchasing Options:  The enhanced electronic version of the textbook is online and available via your Access Code.  In order to use MyMathLab, you will need an Access Code.  Please select one of the following options:

·       Purchase the Access code online from www.coursecompass.com (the Access Code is cheaper online).

·       Purchase the Access Code from the SVC Cardinal Bookstore.

·       Purchase a new textbook that includes the Access Code from the SVC Cardinal Bookstore.

·       Purchase a used textbook and purchase the Access Code from the SVC Cardinal Bookstore.

·       Purchase a used textbook and purchase the Access Code online from www.coursecompass.com (the Access Code is cheaper online).

Graphing calculator info

Either the TI83 or TI84 graphing calculator is required for math 141 and 146.  If you do not own one, you may rent one from Skagit Valley College.  The rental fee is $20 per quarter.  If you are interested, please contact me.

This course covers fundamental topics in algebra, including: polynomials, exponential and logarithmic functions and their graphs; systems of equations; inequalities; and curve sketching.  A graphing calculator is required.

A second course in beginning algebra building on topics from Math 097.  Topics include: operations with polynomials, factoring, solving quadratic equations by factoring, rational expressions and equations, functions, systems of linear equations and matrices. A graphing calculator may be required.

Math& 146 DEW (online): Introduction to Probability and Statitics

This course presents a connected introduction to probability and statistics using statistical inference as its theme.  The course covers distribution of measurements, probability distributions, the binomial and normal probability distributions, sample estimation, and tests of hypothesis.  A TI-83 graphing calculator is required. 
Prerequisite: Math 099 with a grade of C or higher or equivalent math placement score.
