Dr. Farhana Loonat is a high-spirited feminist philosopher, political scientist, and tenured faculty at Skagit Valley College. Her classes are a safe space for students of all social classes, genders, races, religious beliefs (or lack of them!), sexual orientations, physical and cognitive disabilities, and those who are neuro divergent. She is passionate about social justice, and infuses that passion into her Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology and Ethnic Studies courses. Dr. Loonat holds a MA degree in Philosophy from the University of Virginia, a Graduate Certificate in Women's and Gender Studies from Vanderbilt University as well as a Ph.D. in Political Science, also from Vanderbilt University. With multiple teaching awards, Dr. Loonat is also a TEDx speaker, author, former Fulbright scholar, and the recipient of the International Peace Scholarship, Caesar Chavez Human Rights Award, and the American Political Science Association Community College Faculty Award.
